O.K. Which of the Beatles was/is homosexual?

that would be Epstein, the manager at one time.

While I heard that John experimented with certain things like this, he cannot be labeled as a homosexual.  Brian Epstein was, however.

I think he was called the fifth beatle at one time, or was that George Martin?

Brent---

I had always heard that the person called the "Fifth Beatle" was Billy Preston,
the keyboard player.

It was Brian! "The 5th Beatle"  Oh' well I thought I finally had one to stump you guys!  Guess I better start reading more books!  I know Billy worked on "Let it Be" but I don't think that made him a Beatle??

I always thought that Stu Sutcliffe was the 5th Beatle???  And I know I have read stuff where George Martin was considered the 5th Beatle.

Anyone remember the SNL skit where Eddie Murphy played a lousy sax player who was kicked out of the Beatles???  I know that was probably during the time when the *devoted* weren't watching TV.

FWIW, I have also heard Eric Clapton referred to as the 5th Beatle???   I know that in one of the forwards of a Burt O'Leary cookbook/Beatles scrapbook, Burt refers to himself as the the 5th Beatle!  <tongue>

Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, Jim Keltner...all these guys worked with the Beatles, but none of them were called the 5th. Beatle.  I wasn't sure if it was Epstein or Martin who was called the 5th Beatle, but I would have guessed Epstein, if I was on "Who wants to be a Millionaire."

Here's some more trivia:

Name two Lennon-McCartney tunes that feature zero John Lennon.

Brent----

Billy Preston is the only person other than a Beatle to be credited on a Beatles
album. Go to "Google" and put "Who  was called the fifth Beatle?" and you'll
see Billy Preston's name come up over and over.  But it's true that some called
Martin the "fifth Beatle" also. I was going to say you'd lose on "Who wants to be
a Millionaire--but you could be right.

Brian Epstein was called the fifth Beatle before Preston, I'm sure.  He and Martin worked with the fab four prior to Preston.

Clapton plays guitar on a number of songs, and wrote Savoy Truffle.
Keltner drums on a number of songs, most noted is Octopus's Garden.
Anyhow, I am confident that it's not Preston.

Did you ever see George Harrison's memorial concert, a year after his death?  All the guys I mentioned are in the band, and they are awesome.

I altered my post while you were posting. I looked further at the threads on Google
and you are right Martin was called the fifth Beatle also. I jumped the gun on that
one. It looks like others played on Beatles albums, but only Preston is actually listed
with a credit on the albums.

Joe,

Among Beatles scholars, there are those who promote the Prestonian error, and there are the Epsteiners.  The thing we must always be careful of is to not divide Beatledom.  I can listen to Abbey Road with a Prestonian, as long as they keep quiet.  I think we must stick to the essentials, and in doing so, those who oppose us will be humbled.

I sit atop my lofty perch as I type this, and look down upon my wayward Prestonian baby brothers.  They will learn...if they google enough, or perhaps go to ask.com.

Brian Epstein was the first one called the 5th Beatle.  I found this on the internet, so it must be true.

also, I remember clearly that Epstein was the original 5th Beatle.  Don't be a Prestonian.  Repent.

I don't want to be a Prestonian any more. I've just torn my best shirt and poured
fireplace ashes upon my head. I've been thoroughly Epsteined and I repent.

Remember the Epsteiner creed:

Magical Mystery Tour was recorded on 1inch four track....which is why the strings and horns sound so amazing.  Remember that and you won't get sidetracked with Prestonian heresy.

He made his contribution to Beatledom, and we don't begrudge him that; but MMT was recorded on 1 inch fourtrack tape.

Dude, I plucked you from the fire....

Thanks so much. For years I've lived under the creed "Nothing from Nothing leaves
nothing" and often thought "Will it go round in circles?" But I've been freed from
Prestonian thought. Thanks for leading me back to the Epstein road, and the true
steps to Beatle Mania in it's purest sense.

I find it ironic that Billy played on the song, "Get Back."  What irony!  Here we have the biggest heretic in Beatledom telling us to "Get Back."

Hmm. Actually Brent, when I went to ask.com and posed the question, "Who was the fifth Beatle?" this was the answer I got.

http://web.ask.com/redir?u=http%3a%2f%2ftm.wc.ask.com%2fr%3ft%3dan%26s%3da7%26uid%3d06DDF793352A350D3%26sid%3d134D0A78A83928724%26qid%3d72E81E30F418A0418866CDA3B4437617%26io%3d8%26sv%3dz6f537200%26o%3d0%26ask%3dwho%2bwas%2bthe%2bfifth%2bbeatle%253f%26uip%3d476cc4ac%26en%3dte%26eo%3d-100%26pt%3dthe%2b5th%2bBeatle%26ac%3d3%26qs%3d0%26pg%3d1%26ep%3d1%26te_par%3d102%26te_id%3d%26u%3dhttp%3a%2f%2fwww.happyrobot.net%2frobotchow%2f5thbeatle.asp&bpg=http%3a%2f%2fweb.ask.com%2fweb%3fq%3dwho%2bwas%2bthe%2bfifth%2bbeatle%253f%26o%3d0%26page%3d1&q=who+was+the+fifth+beatle%3f&s=a7&bu=http%3a%2f%2fwww.happyrobot.net%2frobotchow%2f5thbeatle.asp&qte=0&o=0&abs=...happyrobotUSA+brings+you+information+about+the+talked+about+5th+Beatle...+Paul%2c+John%2c+Ringo%2c+George%2c+and....&tit=the+5th+Beatle&bin=&cat=wb&purl=http%3a%2f%2ftm.wc.ask.com%2fi%2fb.html%3ft%3dan%26s%3da7%26uid%3d06DDF793352A350D3%26sid%3d134D0A78A83928724%26qid%3d72E81E30F418A0418866CDA3B4437617%26io%3d%26sv%3dz6f537200%26o%3d0%26ask%3dwho%2bwas%2bthe%2bfifth%2bbeatle%253f%26uip%3d476cc4ac%26en%3dbm%26eo%3d-100%26pt%3d%26ac%3d3%26qs%3d0%26pg%3d1%26u%3dhttp%3a%2f%2fmyjeeves.ask.com%2faction%2fsnip&Complete=1

Quite enlightening, don't you think? That, and it mentioned George Martin several times. I'd always heard it was him. But I won't put the ashes back in the fireplace just yet.
