  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

  Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

 Therefore thou shalt love the Lord thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.

  And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

  For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;

If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee beside these three:

   In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

   But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

  And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

  And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments.

The key was always there, even when the law was given! I guess that is why love never fails...

Actually, the author is known.  Joachim Neander wrote the original German hymn in 1680, and Catherine Winkworth translated it to English in 1863.  But the composer of the tune seems to be unknown.  The tune appears in an old German hymnbook from 1665.

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
Praise Him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, Who over all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires ever have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, Who hath fearfully, wondrously, made thee;
Health hath vouchsafed and, when heedlessly falling, hath stayed thee.
What need or grief ever hath failed of relief?
Wings of His mercy did shade thee.

Praise to the Lord, Who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
If with His love He befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord, Who, when tempests their warfare are waging,
Who, when the elements madly around thee are raging,
Biddeth them cease, turneth their fury to peace,
Whirlwinds and waters assuaging.

Praise to the Lord, Who, when darkness of sin is abounding,
Who, when the godless do triumph, all virtue confounding,
Sheddeth His light, chaseth the horrors of night,
Saints with His mercy surrounding.

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him.
Let the Amen sound from His people again,
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

  No condemnation now I dread;
   Jesus, and all in him, is mine;
   alive in him, my living Head,
   and clothed in righteousness divine,
   bold I approach th' eternal throne,
   and claim the crown, through Christ my own.
   Bold I approach th' eternal throne,
   and claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Our Little Lord

Our little Lord, we give thee praise,
     that Thou hast deigned to take our ways.
Born of Mary, a man to be,
     and all the angels sing to thee.
The eternal Father's Son He lay,
     cradled in a crib of hay.
The everlasting God appears
     in our frail flesh and blood and tears.
What the globe could not enwrap,
     nestled lies in Mary's lap.
Just a baby, very wee,
     yet the Lord of all the world is He.

Let me like Mary through the gloom come with a gift for Thee. Show me the tomb where thou was't laid. Lead me to Calvary, lest I forget gethsamne, lest I forget thy agony, lest I forget Thy Love for me, lead me to Calvery.

Psalms 4:7

Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in time that their corn and their wine increased.

More about Jesus would I know, more of His grace to others show; more of His saving fulness see, more of His love who died for me. Spirit of God my teacher be, showing the things of Christ to me. More, more about Jesus, hearing His voice in every line, making each faithful saying mine. More, more about Jesus, More of His kingdom's sure increase; More of His coming, Prince of Peace.

My eyes are blind, my faith is old, my heart is hard, my prayers are cold and I know how I ought to be, alive to you and dead to me, so what can be done for a cold heart like mine, soften it up with oil and wine, the oil is you your spirit of love, please wash me anew in the wine of your love.  This is an old Keith Green song I just thought of.........

I know not what awaits me, God kindly veils my eyes
And o'er each step of my onward way
He makes new scenes to rise
And every joy He sends me comes
A sweet and glad surprise.

Oh blissful lack of wisdom, 'Tis blessed not to know
He holds me with His own right hand
And will not let me go.
And lulls my troubled soul to rest
In Him who loves me so.

One step I see before me, 'Tis all I need to see
The light of heaven more brightly shines
When earth's illusions flee.
And sweetly through the silence comes
His loving "Follow Me!"

So on I go not knowing, I would not if I might
I'd rather walk in the dark with God
Than go alone in the light
I'd rather walk by faith in Him, than go alone by sight.

Where He may lead, I'll follow
My trust in Him repose.
And every hour in perfect peace
I'll sing:  "He knows, He knows"
And every hour in perfect peace
I'll sing:  "He knows, He knows".
