This is indeed a sad story of Culture War Gone Overboard.  The only good is a relationship sprung forth between the Unitarian church and the Presbyterians.

This was on another BB

The perpetrator of this crime was my neighbor; the front door of his home is less than 200 feet from mine. The interview with the woman that implied the man was anti-Christian was misleading. This man is anti-liberal. Anti-liberal hate tracts were found in his home by police. My wife and I watched the search from a respectful distance, wondering how we escaped the rage of this psychopath four years ago when we posted a big John Kerry sign (it disappeared within two days).

This guy could have walked to a larger church. But that was a conservative church. So were the dozens of churches he passed to get to the only liberal church around. The UU church welcomed gays. The minister, Chris Buice, often writes eloquent letters to the editor espousing radical ideas like church-state separation.

Make no mistake about it: this guy was targeting liberals.
