Hey all, just wanted to post something on the lighter side, and I thing it is something that will bring refreshing as well.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE YOU LEARNED While in the Assembly (ok if you are still in Lord Bless You and you can post as well) and give us a verse or two of it.   Cheesy

Was it ones like Come and Dine, Lord, I hear of showers of blessing, Wonderful the Matchless Grace of Jesus, Were marching to Zion, Brighten the Corner where you are, Oh the love that sought me, etc.

The one that touched me the most after we learned it was IS Your ALL on the Altar of Sacrifice Laid?

You have longed for sweet peace, and for faith to increase.
And have earnestly, fervently prayed.
But you cannot have rest or be perfectly blest
Until all on the altar is laid

Chorus
Is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid?
Your heart, does the Spirit control?
You can only be blest and have peace and sweet rest,
As you yield Him you body and soul.

Lord Bless you all. Eph 5:18-20

My two favorite hymns from the Assembly have always
been "A mighty fortress is our God"(I don't know why but
I always loved this hymn written by Martin Luther). I also loved the hymn "Christ the Lord is risen today"---

Christ the Lord is risen today---aa-aa--aa-a-aa le-ee-leu eu yah!!!  Amen!!!

And Can It Be That I should gain an interest in my Savior's blood?

Deep thinker, that Charles Wesley.

no doubt about it:
'I've got a Mansion Just Over the Hilltop'.

What a hymn of assurance of grace!

There are so many...this is tough...How about:

"Fairest Lord Jesus"..."Amazing Grace" would be number one with me if we counted only our neediest times.

 I have always loved the following hymn. The first time I heard it I knew it was "for me". We owe Him so much. Won't it be awesome to see all He has done for us unfolded in eternity. We will be so amazed.

WHEN THIS PASSING WORLD IS DONE
                        by Robert Murray McCheyne
  When this passing world is done,
  When has sunk yon glorious sun,
  When we stand with Christ on high,
  Looking o'er life's history,
  Then, Lord, shall I fully know,
  Not till then how much I owe.

 When I stand before the throne,
  Dressed in beauty not my own,
  When I see Thee as Thou art,
  Love Thee with unsinning heart;
  Then, Lord, shall I fully know
  Not till then how much I owe.

  E'en on earth, as through a glass,
  Darkly, let Thy glory pass;
  Make forgiveness feel so sweet;
  Make Thy Spirit's help so meet;
  E'en on earth, Lord, make me know
  Something of how much I owe.

  Chosen not for good in me,
  Wakened up from wrath to flee;
  Hidden in the Savior's side,
  By the Spirit sanctified;
  Teach me, Lord, on earth to show,
  By my love, how much I owe.

There were 2 hymns in a row in the Inter-varsity Hymn Book that were both sung to the tune Finlandia.

I use to sing these to my children as infants whenever I rocked them to sleep.  My oldest son Joshua often sings them as a source of strength in hard times.

The first is known as Eric Liddell's favorite hymn

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future, as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
And all is darkened in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessèd we shall meet at last.

Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise
On earth, be leaving, to Thy Lord on high;
Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways,
So shall He view thee with a well pleased eye.
Be still, my soul: the Sun of life divine
Through passing clouds shall but more brightly shine.

The second is known as Jim Elliot's favorite hymn

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!
We go not forth alone against the foe;
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.

Yes, in Thy Name, O Captain of salvation!
In Thy dear Name, all other names above;
Jesus our Righteousness, our sure Foundation,
Our Prince of glory and our King of love.
Jesus our Righteousness, our sure Foundation,
Our Prince of glory and our King of love.

We go in faith, our own great weakness feeling,
And needing more each day Thy grace to know:
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
“We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.”
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
“We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.”

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!
Thine is the battle, Thine shall be the praise;
When passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days.
When passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days.

I posted as Psalm 51.  I'm not sure why I was listed as a guest. I've been a memeber in good standing for weeks!  Cheesy Cheesy
Anyway, I think I straightened out whatever the problem was and I'm back.
My favorite hymn:  When This Passing World is Done

 see post below for those glorious lyrics.

What has been a comfort to me in the most difficult situations is the song by Steve Green : God and God Alone!

" God and God alone
Created all these things we call our own
From the mighty to the small
The Glory in them all
Is God's and God's alone

   CHORUS:   God and God alone
Reveals the truth of all we call unknown
All the best and worst of man
Can't change the master plan
It's God's and God's alone

God and God alone
Is fit to take the universe's throne
Let everything that lives
Reserve its truest praise
For God and God alone.

God and God alone
Will be the joy of our eternal home
He will be our one desire
Our hearts will never tire
Of God and God alone!

Pat,

So you are Psalm 51!  Ha!  I wondered "who was Psalm 51".  Glad to see your real name.  By the way, that quote that you have from Wesley is awesome!

God bless you and your family,
Garth

Hi Garth,
Yes. I was Psalm51. It seemed fitting, especially given my age. Anyway, I'm glad for many things today. God is quite a shepherd and a deliverer.
I've enjoyed your posts.  Cheesy

Ok, I have to add another one, it is more a kids song, but I find myself singing this more than anything at time.

Heaven is a wonderful place
Filled with glory and grace,
I wanna see my Saviors face
Casue heaven is a wonderful place
I wanna go there! (then you start the rounds)

Heaven is a wonderful plaaaaa-ace
Filled will glory and graaaaaa-ace
..............

Lord Bless,

My favorite hymn is:

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand.

These words ring more true every day!
