: Exalting Him In Poetry and Prose
: vernecarty March 29, 2003, 05:36:15 PM
I would like to humbly request that this thread be dedicated to magnifying the Son of God. In poetry, prose, hymn and verse. Please add your favorite! May all who read here encounter only His matchless grace and beauty....
Here is my favorite:

Hast thou heard Him, seen Him known Him?
Is not thine a captured heart?

Chief among ten thousand own Him
Joyful choose the better part

Idols once they won thee, charmed thee
Lovely things of time and sense

Gilded thus does sin disarm thee
Honeyed, lest thou turn thee thence

What has stripped the seeming beauty
From the idols of the earth?

Not the sense of right or duty
But the sight of peerless worth!

Not the crushing of those idols
With its bitter void and smart

But the beaming of His beauty
The unveiling of His heart

Who extinguishes his taper
Till he hails the rising sun?

Who discards the garb of winter
Till the Summer has begun?

Tis’ the look that melted Peter
Tis' the face that Stephen saw

Tis’ the heart that wept with Mary
Can alone from idols draw

Draw and win, and fill, completely
Till the cup o’erflow the brim

What have we to do with idols
Who have companied with HIM?

'Have you heard this tale - the best of them all-
The tale of the Holy and True'
He dies, but His life, in untold souls
Lives on in the world anew;
His seed prevails, and is filling the earth,
As the stars fill the sky above.
He taught us to yield up the love of life,
For the sake of the life of love.
His death is our life, His loss is our gain;
The joy for the tear, the peace for the pain.'

Earth's fairest flowers grow not on sunny plain,
But where some vast upheaval rent in twain
The smiling land ....
After the whirlwind's devasting blast,
After the molten fire and ashen pall,
God's still small voice breathes healing over all.
From riven rocks and fern-clad chasms deep,
Flow living waters as from hearts that weep,
There in the afterglow soft dews distill
And angels tend God's plants when night falls still,
And the Beloved passing by that way
Will gather lilies in the break of day.

All that thrills my soul is Jesus
He is more than life to me
He's the fairest of ten thousand
In my blessed Lord I see!

I know I shall see in His beauty
The King in whose law I delight
Who lovingly guardeth my foot-steps
And giveth me songs in the night!

Day by Day (http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/d/a/daybyday.htm)

Every day, the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He Whose Name is Counselor and Power;
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.

Deuteronomy 33:24-29
And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil.  Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.  The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.

Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

(Asher means happy.  This passage has the A B A B alternating structure.)

There is nothing that gives remarkable testimony to the divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, like their uncanny ability to speak powerfully into the space-time course of events of our lives. I took great comfort from Psalm 74 this week. If you have been struggling over the state of the church of Jesus Christ, take heart...

  O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?
Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.
A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes on the thick trees.
But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.
They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.
We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right and? pluck it out of thy bosom.
For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.
Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.
The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.
Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.
O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.
Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.
O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.
 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.
Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.

Psalm 74

Love Found A Way

An Angel stood with flaming sword
At Edens's darkened gate
The frightened family faced the world
Now filled with Satan's hate
These fallen children God so loved
Were lost in fear alone
But love would spare no cost
To bring them home...

Love Found A Way
Love Found a Way
And Our Hearts Can't Hold
The Price Love chose to pay
All Hope Was Gone
Till Easter's Dawn
We Are Free Because
Love Found A Way!

     I received this verse in an e-mail:

What It Means To Be a Christian

        When I say "I am a Christian"... I'm not shouting "I'm clean living!"
I'm whispering, "I had been lost; now found and am forgiven."

When I say "I am a Christian".. I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble, and need CHRIST as my guide.

When I say "I am a Christian"... I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak, and need HIS strength to carry on.

When I say "I am a Christian"... I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed, and need God to clean my mess.

When I say "I am a Christian"... I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible; but God believes I'm worth it.

When I say "I am a Christian".. I still feel the sting of pain,
 I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say "I am a Christian"... I'm not holier than thou.
I'm just a simple sinner, who received God's grace, somehow.

a poem from the book: Tales of the Tardy Oxcart.

Under the subject of Maturity:

Called: AFTER A WHILE

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
and you learn that love doesn't mean leaning
and company doesn't mean security.

After a while you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes open
with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child.

After a while you learn to build you roads on today because
tomorrow's grounds are too uncertain for plans.

After a while you learn that even sunshine burtns
if you get too much. SO plant your own garden
and decorate your own soil instead of waiting
for someone to bring you flowers,
And you learn that you really can endure.
...that you really are strong.
...and you really do have worth.

POWER OF PRAYER:
Author unknown.

I got up early one morning and rushed into the day
I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me, and heavier came each task.
"Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered.
He answered, "you didn't ask."

I wanted to see joy and beauty,
but the day toiled on,
gray and bleaks;
I wondered why God didn't show me.
He said, "But you didn't seek."

I tried to come into God's presence;
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"My child, you didn't knock."

I woke up early this morning, and paused
before entrying the day;
I had so much to accomplish that
I had to take time to pray.

THE DIVINE IMAGE

To Mercy Pity Peace and Love
All pray in their distress:
And to these virtues of delight
Return to their thankfulness.

For Mercy Pity Peace and Love,
Is God our father dear:
And Mercy Pity Peace and Love
Is Man his child and care.

For Mercy has a human heart
Pity, a human face;
And Love, the human form divine,
and Peace, the Human dress.

Then every man of every clime,
That prays in his distress,
Prays to the human form divine
Love Mercy Pity Peace.

And all must love the human form,
In heathen, turk or jew
Where Mercy, Love & Pity dwell
There God is dwelling too.

Abide with me: fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide:  When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.  Come not in terrors, as the King of kings; kind and good,  with healing in Thy wings: Tears for all woes, a heart for ev'ry plea; Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me. CONFESSION OF A CLUTTER BUG

Lord, bless this mess -
All of it's mine.
It keeps me in distress
All of the time.
Each item I save,
And think I may need,
Is an outward sign
Of inner greed.
Help me to let go and
Quit keeping everything.
I'm a clutter bug I know,
But You are the King of Kings!
By Your power I ask
For freedom- yes release.
Help me in my task
To let go of things, please?

There seems to be a need to beware of doctrinal aberrations in songs these days.  The Bible says that the Lord is our righteousness; not the other way around.

Jeremiah 23:5-6
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.  In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Jeremiah 33:15-16
In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.  In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.

Stephen,   I appreciate your observation. I'm looking into the matter now. I've searched through several translations on Isaiah43 and they all say witnesses...perhaps the origional writers of the song meant the rightousness that is of Faith?   God Bless...Summer

THE PLAN OF THE MASTER WEAVER

Our lives are but fine weavings
That GOD and we prepare
Each life becomes a fabric planned
And fashioned in His care
We may not always see just how
The WEAVINGS intertwine
but we much trust the MASTER'S hand
And follow His design
For He can view the pattern
Upon the upper side.
While we must look from underneath
And trust in Him to guide
Sometimes a strand of sorrow
Is added to His plan
And though it's difficult for us
We still must understand
That it's He who fills the shuttle
It's He who knows what's best
So we must WEAVE in patience
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall GOD unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why
The dark threads area as needed
In the WEAVER'S Skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

When I Survey the Wonderous Cross
by Isaac Watts:

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride

Forbid it , Lord, that I should boast
Save in the death of Christ , my God
All the vain things that charm me most
I sacrifice them to His blood

See, from his Head, His Hands, His Feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compse so rich a crown

Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were a present far too small
Love so amazing so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all

     Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2Peter1:21

     The Bible is the writing of the living God.  Each letter was penned with an almighty finger.  Each word in it dropped from the everlasting lips.  Each sentence was dictated by the Holy Spirit.

     Albeit that Moses was employed to write his histories with his fiery pen, God guided that pen.  It may be that David touched his harp and let sweet psalms of melody drop from his fingers, but God moved his hands over the living strings of his golden harp.  Solomon sang canticles of love and gave forth words of consummate wisdom, but God directed his lips and made the preacher eloquent.  If I follow the thundering Nahum, when his horses plow the waters; or Habakkuk, when he sees the tents of Cushan in affliction; if I read Malachi, when the earth is burning like an oven; if I turn to the smooth page of John, who tells of love; or the rugged chapters of Peter, who speaks of fire devouring God's enemies; if I turn aside to Jude, who launches forth anathemas upon the foes of God-- everywhere I find God speaking.

     It is God's voice, not man's; the words are God's words: the words of the Eternal, the Invisible, the Almighty, the Jehovah of ages.  This Bible is God's Bible; and when I see it, I seem to hear a voice springing up from it, saying, "I am the Book of God.  Man, read me.  I am God's writing.  Study my page, for I wasa penned by God.  Love me, for He is my Author, and you will see Him visible and manifest everywhere."

This was on the back of the church bulletin today.

          THE PRICELESS GIFT OF CHRISTMAS

Now Christmas is a season for joy and merrymaking,
A time for gifts and presents, for giving and for taking,
A friendly, happy time when everyone is gay------
But have we ever felt THE GREATNESS OF THE DAY......

For through the centuries the world has wandered far away
From the beauty and the meaning of the HOLY CHRISTMAS DAY............
For Christmas is a heavenly gift that only God can give.
It's ours just for the asking, for as long as we shall live:

It can't be bought or bartered, it can't be won or sold,
It doesn't cost a penny and it's worth far more than gold............
It isn't bright or gleaming for eager eyes to se
It can's be wrapped in tinsel or placed beneath a tree:

It isn't soft and shimmering for reaching hands to touch,
Or some expensive luxury you've wanted very much....
For the PRICELESS GIFT OF CHRISTMAS is meant just for the heart
And we receive it only when we become a part

Of the kingdom and the glory which is ours to freely take,
For God sent the HOLY CHRIST CHILD AT CHRISTMAS for our sake,
So man might come to know him and feel His presence near
And see the many miracles performed while He was here......

And this PRICELESS GIFT OF CHRISTMAS is within the reach of all,
The rich, the poor, the young, the old, the greatest and the small..........
So take His PRICELESS GIFT OF LOVE, reach out and you receive,
And the only payment that God asks is just that you believe.

Lord, we lift up Your name
With hearts full of praise
Be exalted, O Lord my God
Hosanna in the Highest

This day Christ has thrown the door of mercy wide open and stands calling and crying with a loud voice to poor sinners.  Now let everyone who is still without Christ and hanging over the pit of hell answer to the loud calls of God's Word.

Jesus, price-less treasure!
Source of purest pleasure
Truest Friend to me.
Long my heart had panted,
'Til it well nigh fainted,
Thirsting after Thee!
Thine I am most spotless Lamb,
I would suffer naught to hide Thee,
Ask for none beside Thee!

Lord's Day December 12th at 9:54 pm Arnprior.

             THE OLD TESTAMENT IN A NUT SHELL

In Genesis the word was made by God's creative hand;
In Exodus the Hebrews marched to greet the Promised Land;
Leviticus contains the Law, holy, just and good;
Numbers records the tribes enrolled-all sons of Abraham's blood;
Moses, in Deuteronomy, records God's mighty deeds;
Brave Joshua into Canaan's Land the host of Israel leads;
In Judges their rebellion oft provokes the Lord to smite;
But Ruth recalls the Faith of one well pleasing in His sight;
In 1st and 2nd Samuel of Jesse's son we read;
Ten Tribes in 1st and 2nd Kings revolted from his seed;
The 1st and 2nd Chronicles see Judah captive made;
But Ezra leads a remnant back by princely Cyrus' aid.
The city walls of Zion Nehemiah builds again;
While Esther saves her people from plots of wicked men;
In Job we read how faith will live beneath afflictions rod;
And in Psalms are precious songs for every child of God;
The Proverbs like a goodly string of choicest Pearls appear;
Ecclesiastes teaches man how vain are all things here;
The mystic Song of Solomon exalts sweet Sharon's Rose;
While Christ the King and Saviour the rapt Isaiah shows.
The warning of Jeremiah apostate Israel scorns,
His plaintive Lamentations their awful downfall mourns;
Ezekiel tells wondrous words of dazzling mysteries;
While Kings and Empires yet to come, Daniel in vision sees.
Of judgement and of mercy Hosea loves to tell;
Joel describes the blessed days when God with man shall dwell;
Among Tekoa's herdsman Amos received his call;
While Obadiah prophesies of Edom's final fall;
Jonah enshires a wondrous type of Christ our risen Lord;
Micah pronounces Judah lost - lost, but again restored;
Nahum declares on Nineveh just judgement shall be poured;
A view of Chaldeans coming down, Habakkuk's vision gives;
Next Zephaniah warns the Jews to turn, repent and live,
Haggai wrote of those who saw the temple built again
And Zechariah prophesied of Christ's triumphant reign;
Malachi was last who touched the prophetic chord;
Its final note sublimely show the Coming of the Lord.

A HYMN ON THE NATIVITY OF MY SAVIOUR

I SING THE BIRTH
Was born tonight
The Author of both life and light.
The angels so did sound it.
And like the ravished shepherd said,
Who saw the light, and were afraid,
Yet searched, and true they found it.

The Son of God 'th Eternal King
That did us all salvation bring,
And freed our soul from danger;
He whom the whole world could not take,
The Word, which heaven and eath did make,
Was now laid in a manger.

The Father's wisdom willed it so,
The Son's obedience knew no No,
Both wills were one in stature.
And as that wisdom had decreed,
The Word was now made flesh indeed,
And took on HIm our nature,

What comfort by Him do we win,
Who made Himself the price of sin,
To make us heirs of glory!
To see this Babe all innocence,
A martyr born in our defence,
Can man forget this story?

Thou Life of my life Blessed Jesus
Thou Death of the death that was mine
For me was Thy cross and Thine anguish
Thy love and Thy sorrow divine
Thou suffered the cross and the torment
That I might forever go free
A thousand, a thousand thanksgivings
I bring Blessed Savior to Thee!

O Lord from my heart I do thank Thee
For all Thou has borne in my room
Thine agony dying unsolaced
Alone in the darkness of gloom
That I in the glory of Heaven
Forever  and ever might me
A thousand a thousand thankgivings
I bring Blessed Savior to Thee!

Jesus, What a Beautiful Name
Words and Music by Tanya Riches
Performed by: Darlene Zschech

Jesus, what a beautiful name
Son of God, Son of Man
Lamb that was slain
Joy and peace, strength and hope
Grace that blows all fear away
Jesus, what a beautiful name

Jesus, what a beautiful name
Truth revealed, my future sealed
Healed my pain
Love and freedom, life and warmth
Grace that blows all fear away
Jesus, what a beautiful name

Jesus, what a beautiful name
Rescued my soul, my stronghold
Lifts me from shame
Forgiveness, security, power and love
Grace that blows all fear away
Jesus, what a beautiful name

Great song, Marcia - that one heated up the cassette player in my car for a long time.

Check out Margaret Becker's new disc, "Faithfully Yours - Psalms." Ten Psalms of praise, seeking forgiveness, and rejoicing in the Lord. I am enjoying how they bring Psalms 40, 50, 51, and - my favorite, 86 - to life.

"Call on me in the day of trouble and I will rescue you." (Psalm 50:15)

Selah!

Hello everyone , how are you been, did you have a good refreshing New Years.

I am trying my hand at poetry.
I am going to share my attempt with you, remember it is abit rough and my english grammar may off.  I am creating a Winter Contest for the Sunday School time at my church.  This is part of idea I am working on. Before I present the ideas I am trying with the example:

What do you think?
=======================================

JOURNEY OF PAUL - THE CHRISTIAN GOSPEL TRAIL

SONG WRITING/POEM CREATION

There was a man name Saul
Who journey to be called Paul

A journey who took him wide and near
For a God he did fear

A Gospel message he did take
With  Christian letters he did  make

For unto the people of the Gentiles
Where sinners ground was very fertile

Travelling many miles he did go
When God call , he didn't say no

Fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers
Many in churches gathered together

Learn , grow and encourage
Gain in strength and courage

Paul went from place to place
Difficult times he did face

Continue to even unto prison
Obeying as opportunity arisen

Keeping God's people walking on track
By teaching them Biblical facts

To God, Paul gave all he got
With all his life , with all that he fought

Paul received the rewards he did send
Eternal home way in heaven

Father-like, He tends and spares us
Well our feeble frame He knows
In in arms He gently bears us
Rescues us from all our foes
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Widely as His mercy flows!

 :)FEBRUARY 22

EVERYTHING

As I awoke to the beginning of a brand new day
It seemed like a waves of trials kept coming my way,
Problem after problem was all I could see,
I cried out, "Lord, what is it you want from me?"

The answer that came from the One Most High,
Was nothing but a very simple reply,
It was one unexpected, but yet rang so true,
It's something He desires from me and from you.

HE SAID, 'EVERYTHING'

I want you to know ME as your SAVIOUR and GUIDE,
The One who will always be right there at your side,
I want you to serve ME through the good times and bad,
To sing praises to MY NAME whether you're happy or sad.

I want your faith to grow stronger as each day goes by,
To TRUST ME when there's no answers to your questions of "WHY?"
To learn of MY LOVE and to feel MY EMBRACE,
When you're called to endure the hardships you face.

I want no one or nothing to take MY PLACE in your heart,
In whatever you should do, I want to take part,
Stand on MY PROMISES, let nothing cause you doubt,
In the end you will see that all things will work out.

So you see, MY DEAR CHILD, I want to be YOUR ALL IN ALL,
To DEPEND ON MY PRESENCE when you stand or when you fall,
When you question just what is it that I want from thee?
MY ANSWER IS 'EVERYTHING', as you are EVERYTHING TO ME.

LORD, LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN

Author: Ken Medema

Chorus:
LORD, LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN PRAYING,
LORD, SEND YOUR SPIRIT IN THIS PLACE;
LORD, LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN PRAYING,
SEND US LOVE, SEND US POW'R, SEND US GRACE.

Verse 1:
Something's gonna happen like the word has never known,
When the people of the Lord get down to pray;
A door's gonna swing open,
and  the walls come atumbling down,
When the people of the Lord
Get down to pray

Verse 2:
He's gonna take over,
He's gonna take control,
WHen the people of the Lord get down to pray;
He's gonna move the mountain
He's gonna make the waters roll
WHen the people of the Lord get down to pray.

Verse 3:
You're gonna know it
when the Lord stretches out His hand
When the people of the Lord get down to pray
There's gonna be a brand new song of victory in this land
When the people of the Lord get down to pray

Like a foolish dreamer trying to build a highway to the sky,
All my hopes would come tumbling down, and I never new just why,
Until today, when you pulled away the clouds that hung like curtains on my eyes,
Well I've been blind all these wasted years and I thought I was so wise,
But then you took me by surprise.

Like waking up from the longest dream, how real it seemed,
until your love broke through,
I've been lost in a fantasy, that blinded me,
Until your love broke through.

All my life I've been seaching for that crazy missing part,
And with one touch, you rolled away the stone that held my heart,
And now I see that the answer was as easy, as just asking you in,
And I am so sure I could never doubt your gentle touch again,
It's like the power of the wind.

Like waking up from the longest dream, how real it seamed,
until your love broke through,
I've been lost in a fantasy, that blinded me,
Until your love broke through.'

Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

The words are filled with profound and sarcastic contempt.
They are directed at the Lord of Glory.
How strange, that in these words there is tacit acknowledgement that He did indeed save others, but for those mocking and deriding Him, that proves insufficient basis for their believing in Him.
For that, they require that He save Himself...!
It is certainly revealing is it not?
It is amazing to consider that these events, taking place on the fourteenth of Nissan, which was instituted as the first Hebrew calendar month at the Passover in Egypt, are all taking place exactly in accordance with what has been foreordained of the Supreme Ruler of the universe, Almighty God.
On this remarkable day, in accordance with the prophetic Scriptures, God's Paschal lamb was sacrificed in complete fulfillment of the OT type forwshadowed on that distant Egyptian night.
Those sheltering under the shadow of His wings, are covered from the certain wrath to come.
I remember with grateful heart, and love overflowing, that Himself He did not save...!

MARCH 26:
HI EVERYONE: FOUND THIS BEAUTIFUL POEM ON THE WEB. I was searching for Easter Poem, this is one beautiful one I found.  The author name is on the bottom of it.

Called:
                      THE MASTER'S ROSE

The Master had a garden
Filled with flowers everywhere
Each day he'd water, feed and prune
He'd tend each rose with care.

And as he'd walk by each flower,
His face shone with delight,
His eyes would glow his heart would sing;
They were a lovely sight.

But back in one dark corner
A lonely rosebud stood
The water couldn't reach it
It was weak with want of food.

The rays of sunlight never touched its face
Its warmth it cold not feel
And soon the lack took its toll
And the rosebud could not heal.

It slowly began to wither
Its color began to wane
This rosebud would never blossom
Destined to die in lonely pain.

One day the Master was strolling
Through his garden grand and bright,
When he noticed in the corner
A small pathetic sight.

The single, withered rosebud
Its head bowed low in shame
For it had brought no pleasure
And felt it was to blame.

But the master with his loving hands
Began to tend the rose
He watered, fed, and pruned it
And spoke in sweet repose.

He cleared a path for sunshine
So its warmth the rose would feel,
And around the small and weakened stem
Was placed the master's seal.

The rose began to bud again
Its flower rich and lush
And soon the single rosebud
Became a glorious bush

The master made a special place
And put the rosebush there
Its blossoms glistened with beauty
Its fragrance filled the air.

And each day as the master
Would relish in its rebirth
The rosebush bowed in loving gratitude
For the master gave it worth.

O love, that wilt not let me go
I rest my weary sould in Thee
I give the back the life I owe
That in Thy ocean's depths its flow
May richer, fuller be!

Have you ever wondered why the Bible does not say by one woman, sin came upon all men?
After alll Eve was the first one to take the "apple" was she not?

The operation of the will is guided by the affections.
You will choose, based on what you love most.
Sin is entirely a matter of the heart!  :)

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

I was going to say this at a later time but I need to take some time off so here is an excercise for all in the meantime.
Open your Bibles and starting with Genesis, check how many times the word commandment is coupled with the word love and you will have the answer. Would you post each instance?
God richly bless and keep!

  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

  Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

 Therefore thou shalt love the Lord thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.

  And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

  For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;

If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the Lord thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee beside these three:

   In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

   But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

  And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

  And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments.

The key was always there, even when the law was given! I guess that is why love never fails...

Actually, the author is known.  Joachim Neander wrote the original German hymn in 1680, and Catherine Winkworth translated it to English in 1863.  But the composer of the tune seems to be unknown.  The tune appears in an old German hymnbook from 1665.

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
Praise Him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, Who over all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires ever have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, Who hath fearfully, wondrously, made thee;
Health hath vouchsafed and, when heedlessly falling, hath stayed thee.
What need or grief ever hath failed of relief?
Wings of His mercy did shade thee.

Praise to the Lord, Who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
If with His love He befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord, Who, when tempests their warfare are waging,
Who, when the elements madly around thee are raging,
Biddeth them cease, turneth their fury to peace,
Whirlwinds and waters assuaging.

Praise to the Lord, Who, when darkness of sin is abounding,
Who, when the godless do triumph, all virtue confounding,
Sheddeth His light, chaseth the horrors of night,
Saints with His mercy surrounding.

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him.
Let the Amen sound from His people again,
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

Our Little Lord

Our little Lord, we give thee praise,
     that Thou hast deigned to take our ways.
Born of Mary, a man to be,
     and all the angels sing to thee.
The eternal Father's Son He lay,
     cradled in a crib of hay.
The everlasting God appears
     in our frail flesh and blood and tears.
What the globe could not enwrap,
     nestled lies in Mary's lap.
Just a baby, very wee,
     yet the Lord of all the world is He.

More, more about Jesus, hearing His voice in every line, making each faithful saying mine. More, more about Jesus, More of His kingdom's sure increase; More of His coming, Prince of Peace.

My eyes are blind, my faith is old, my heart is hard, my prayers are cold and I know how I ought to be, alive to you and dead to me, so what can be done for a cold heart like mine, soften it up with oil and wine, the oil is you your spirit of love, please wash me anew in the wine of your love.  This is an old Keith Green song I just thought of.........

I know not what awaits me, God kindly veils my eyes
And o'er each step of my onward way
He makes new scenes to rise
And every joy He sends me comes
A sweet and glad surprise.

Oh blissful lack of wisdom, 'Tis blessed not to know
He holds me with His own right hand
And will not let me go.
And lulls my troubled soul to rest
In Him who loves me so.

One step I see before me, 'Tis all I need to see
The light of heaven more brightly shines
When earth's illusions flee.
And sweetly through the silence comes
His loving "Follow Me!"

So on I go not knowing, I would not if I might
I'd rather walk in the dark with God
Than go alone in the light
I'd rather walk by faith in Him, than go alone by sight.

Where He may lead, I'll follow
My trust in Him repose.
And every hour in perfect peace
I'll sing:  "He knows, He knows"
And every hour in perfect peace
I'll sing:  "He knows, He knows".
