When I was saved in 1976 I remember reading "Campus Life" magazine and seeing advertisements for books written by former Manson followers. Susan Atkins wrote one titled "Child of Satan, Child of God" It was all about how she had received the Lord and was now a brand new person. Having just become a Christian myself I just believed exactly was was taught from the Bible, "...behold all things become new!"  I can remember telling my aunt, "They should let her out of jail!"

Today I have a much different view on the subject.

  What is your view now?

Human nature doesn't miraculously change when someone has a religious experience.

I know this is in direct contradiction of some interpretations of scripture but I have to side with the camp that holds to the "old nature is not really dead" teaching.

on another note, have you ever looked at the conversion rates of people in jail?  Just about everyone gets saved or right with the Lord when they're in jail, or even on trial for that matter.

So what I am saying is, when I first received Christ I believed that a transformation took place that changed me from an evil, selfish person to a good altruistic person. As I have matured I have witnessed that even the most altruistic people can have "self" at the center of their being.

This said I must give some space for Susan Atkins. All of us know what it is like to be under the influence of a very strong, dominating personality. That freak really got into her, and a lot of other people's, heads!
