Newt may be brilliant but carrying on an affair while condemning Clinton is a problem.

No defense of Newt but just to be clear, the condemnation of Clinton was not for an extra marital affair. It was for lying under oath. He was impeached for perjury not for infidelity.

Rep. Nick Rahall (D-WV), seems to have taken complete leave of his senses. Appropiating billions for his cronies in the coal lobby is apparently not enough for him, he had to include stunning language in an Anti-Wind Energy Section of H.R. 2337 that would criminalize the installation of a wind turbine by any US citizen without burdensome approval from some federal beaurocrat.
That any public official. in a time when dependence on foreign oil is threatening our way of life, would propose legislation so incredibly inane and corrupt, tells you how far we have traveled down the road toward a loss of freedoms we take for granted.
Think of the impact this monstrous act of greed and stupidity would have on every farmer for instance attempting to achieve some level of energy independence by the use of wind turbines. Rahall's pretense of wanting to "protect the birds" notwithstanding, this piece of legislation exposes him as not only compromised and corrupt, but irredeemably stupid as well.
Unless you are fast asleep, contact your representative and express you outrage over the attempt of this idiot to keep every US citizen at the mercy of utility companies.
Please email or call your Representative to request that he or she oppose the Subtitle D Anti-Wind Energy Section of H.R. 2337.

Quote
..wanting to "protect the birds"..

This dizzying impact, cascading to the realm of the chickens, could create a whirling of drumsticks on every plate from KFC.  The derivitive winds upon the adjacent wings on the dish, could initiate flappings with consequences no one dare contemplate.

Thus, this visionary seeks to strike swiftly in the protecting of the precious, public good which bursts forth in every motive of his being.

We are in such good hands.

Then again, the better Protector is the Commander of the birds...

"And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook." (1Ki 17:6)

In some ways I hope a Democrat would win so they can drive the bus for a while and stop whining about how the Surpreme Court prevented Gore from cherry-picking his own election results.

Interesting comment Dave.
It now turns out that the Republican party actually embarked on a strategy of winning elections by attempting to dis-enfranchise targeted members of the electorate, notably minorities.
Although you will not hear much about it in the news media, this is really the reason for the furor over the firing of the  US attorneys by the Bush administration - they would not play ball with baseless and politically motivated charges of "voter fraud" that some puppets of the white house like Pete Domenici pressured at least one US attorney to pursue.
It would appear that the cherry-picking was not being done only by Gore... Wink
