I thought about this film, I saw about 10 years ago, because of Bergman's recent death.

Ingmar Bergen was a filmmaker who was an artist (Not the kind who work on The Simpsons) He made three films that had religious themes. This one is not for the faint of heart! (it deals with a taboo subject but doesn't show anything) The climax of the story has a father and son discussion about "finding a reason to live." The father (Max Von Sydow) keeps excusing his own pathetic life as an example yet wants his son to believe what he is saying. Igmar really had some nerve!
